Miniature roses are smaller than standard roses, yet they are very much real and true roses. They are just bred to be more compact, and are no way less beautiful than standard roses. Growing them is a lot of fun as you can place them almost anywhere around your home and garden. If you thought these delicate-looking and smaller roses need more care than other regular roses, then you are wrong.
On the contrary, it is quite an easy job to grow miniature roses. You don t have to really worry about them during their dormant months as they are pretty hardy. When the springtime approaches, they are going to reward you with a proliferation of blooms and color. If you have been wondering which place is the best spot to place these roses in your yard or garden, they are at their best when used as in the borders and along walkways. As you can see, growing these tiny beautiful roses allows for variety and numerous variations in your landscape.
Climbing mini-roses
If you opt for growing climbing roses, you will have to prepare them to grow upright against some type of support. Just because they are miniature, does not mean that they won t grow very high; growing miniature roses can bring surprises. You should make sure that climbing miniature roses have plenty of support and space for expansion as they can grow much larger than you might expect.
For example, you may have heard about the ‘Jeanne Lajoie’ an award-winning rose that is beautiful and stunning. This is a type of miniature rose that can grow to be seven feet or taller; perfect for climbing the fence or an arbour.
Trailers
Those miniature roses, which have a cascade growth, are known as trailers miniature roses. They can be used to hang over in the balcony or outside walls. The variety called ‘Sequoia Gold’ is a perfect choice in this category. This variety emanates a matchless aroma and blooms all season long.
A micro-mini
Micro-mini is the term used by rose gardeners for the smallest variety of mini roses. These cuties are only between 6-12 inches in height. Their bloom is also proportionate to the size of plant, with a size of an inch or even less. There petite size is perfect for growing in pots on your patio or near your front door. These sweet minis are fun to grow!
Planting the miniature roses
After you have brought the roses home, the next step is how and where to plant them. These new additions to your balcony or garden may be the smallest of flowers, but, nevertheless, you are required to follow some basic principles applying to these sweet little blooms.
The very first thing when planting is to prep the soil by creating a hole where the rose will be placed; this hole should be at least the same depth as was the pot in which the mini rose came. You also should make sure that the hole you dig is about a foot wider in diameter than the pot; this is to ensure safe planting of your rose. You may want to put in a little compost in the hole you dug.
When you are ready with the hole, remove the rose plant carefully from its pot, and softly loosen its roots. The next step is to set the plant down in the center of the hole; now, spread out the roots gently. After this has been accomplished, fill in the hole. Thoroughly water the plant and apply mulch around the base of rose.
Always remember that the many of the miniature roses are not grafted or budded. Therefore, you don t have to worry about mulching or covering the graft. Have fun choosing, planting and growing miniature roses.
